New Moon in Virgo: Heal your shit, figure out your path

Vintage-Moon

This Sunday at 11:01am Pacific Standard Time, the emotional, instinctual moon will move into the perfectionist, pragmatic and aloof sign of Virgo.

As a Virgo Ascendant, this took me forever to write. I consulted my astrology books and apps, the internet and my favorite astrologers, and even my lunar calendar. I had written out my thoughts in my journal this morning, but ever the perfectionist, my Virgo tendencies got the best of me! (I shouldn’t even mention that my sun is Gemini, both signs being ruled by Mercury, and my nervous energy almost got the best of me!)

The moon governs our unconscious, instinctive drive, and the conservative, conscientious sign of Virgo seeks to look back over the past lunar cycle and analyze, analyze, analyze! Virgo is ruler of the nervous system, and as such Virgo’s tend to err on the side of caution, and look before they leap, often waiting for the right time to…well, to do anything. Ever the perfectionist, Virgo can come off as quite aloof, perhaps not saying much. But underneath the surface there can be a deep introspective and nervous energy. Did I say the right thing? Did I make the right decision? Is this the right path for me? How will I know? These may be questions coming up for you right now, or something along those lines.

As we all move along with the sun in Virgo, it can be complimented with the moon visiting that sign as well since the sun is about action, and the moon is about introspection, and at the time of the new moon, the two astral bodies are conjunct to each other. In other words, they are working powerfully with one another for the greater benefit of everyone!

The new moons are all about setting our intentions and planting seeds for the next lunar cycle, and releasing out what we didn’t need from the previous, and perhaps expanding on what we learned. This moon can be a potent time to really sit with ourselves and analyze situations in your life that are causing us stress, see if we can find out the facts about a situation. A mantra I love to repeat in my head is, “Never make assumptions.” Being a Rising Virgo, I know all too well the torment of not knowing all the facts before making a decision, but also the hell that assumptions and the stagnation that comes from fear of the unknown can create. Remember dear Virgins, that when we hold onto negativity, that is exactly how our world will be colored.

Since Virgo wants the path paved ahead to be perfect before they make any final decisions, this could be an excellent time to evaluate and start thinking about what the heck it is you even want. What lights you up? What makes your heart soar? It would do us well to take a leap of faith and be okay to hit the bottom and see what happens there. Often times a failure can turn into such a big lesson that we discover what our truth is beneath that. Looking at it that way, a failure is never really a failure, is it? Let Virgo show you how you can make sense and order out of any situation in life that you aren’t sure of, and let the moon show you how your emotions can be your guide.

Perhaps right now is a time to think about purification of thoughts and deeds. In yoga we call this ahimsa, or non-violence. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and intellect. How have you been speaking to yourself and of yourself? How have you been thinking of and perhaps judging others? And how are those thoughts affecting you emotionally? Is it time to clean up your thoughts so that you can move through this next lunar phase with clearer emotions to respond to things in a way you can be proud of (or at the very least not ashamed of)?

Now is the time to get clear on the values that are important to you. Stop saying yes to things you hate and that make you feel resentful or stuck. You are no one’s door mat and people pleasing won’t make you any friends. Start saying yes to things that create a fire within and make you want to move forward even if you have no idea where you will go. Now isn’t the time to move anyway; now is the time to organize and plan, Virgo’s forte. The path doesn’t need to be perfect, and you can trust your gut to steer you where you need to go. Sometimes what we need and what we want are two different things, and attaching to what we think we want is often the cause of much of our suffering. Taking some steps ahead and moving through fear is a lot better than sitting paralyzed in fear and going nowhere.

Finally, perhaps now is the time to communicate whatever you’ve been holding back. The new phase of the moon is wiping the slate clean for you, and now is the time to open those lines of communication, get all the facts, quit making assumptions, and then make some decisions on where your life is going, or how you can heal old wounds, or how you can heal whatever it is that needs healing now. Allow yourself to settle into an introspective state so you can make sense and order of the emotions coming up in your life.

Tarot Card for the New Moon Virgo:

RWS_Tarot_09_Hermit

The Hermit. He represents soul searching, introspection, being alone and following your own inner guidance. This can be seen as the Hermit follows his own start kept in his lantern. Don’t get too indulgent in this introspection though, and ask questions of others that you’ve been meaning to so you can get the answers you need in order to heal in your life. But be warned that you may not like what you hear, or people may not be cooperative. Often times though, we get the answers we need from people either way, as their actions will speak louder than their words. Don’t take anything personal, for nothing ever really is, and find the answers within you if that’s where the path takes you.

New Moon Meditation Ritual:

Stone: Selenite: powerful energy, can clear negative energy and open and activate the third eye and crown chakras.

Smudge: White Sage (cleansing and purifying and antimicrobial)

Bath: Epsom salt, baking soda and clary sage

Clary sage is helps with digestion and stress relief (Virgo rules the nervous system and intestines)

Poor Epsom salt, baking soda and clary sage into a bath of water. Smudge yourself and the space with white sage and keep the selenite close as you soak for at least 20 minutes.
